Highbury Home            -  11  -              Reports 2008
Once again we have met on the second Thursday of each month to ‘open the book’. We have together once again discovered that the Lord has yet more light and truth to break forth from his word.
We began the year with a Hope ’08 theme as we read through Ephesians and saw it to be a Letter of Hope.
On my return from the Holy Land we opened the book at ‘the Fifth Gospel’. I had not expected the land of Israel and Palestine to impact so much on my reading of the text. It was remarkable to return to familiar passages and read them in a new light.
That visit made me re-consider my reading of Mark’s Gospel. With the help of Ched Myers’ commentary on Mark called ‘Binding the Strong Man’ we read through Mark’s Gospel in the Autumn, and discovered how powerful it is as a statement of the Good News not just for us individually but also in our understanding of the world, and what God wants for his world.

Richard Cleaves
House Group
The fourth Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm is when the "Hope" house group meets. The group evolved from the Richard Cleaves "Hope to Make a Difference" lectures which took place in 2007/2008. We were so enthused by the content of these meetings that a group of us wished to continue to seek how we could "make a difference". Last year different members led the evening, researching and discussing people in the Bible who had made a difference. This year we
will continue this theme but also have plans to make our own impact. The details will gradually be revealed but they centre on Highbury and its growth in learning, sharing, praying and caring. New members are welcome and for details contact us on 01242 529639

Hy-Tec
In 2008 Hy-tec continued to boldly go (or is that to go boldly…) in its mission to provide a fun God based place for teenagers. Our spring term was the “Eggs Factor” leading up to Easter, and then a relaxed summer term including our legendary Hy-tec Duck Race in Pittville Park. Mary made a brief cameo appearing at our hour of need with a net. The highlight of the year for many of us was the BBQ and camping in the field at Tom’s dad’s farm (many thanks again to the Archers). After the summer we continued with the theme “Don’t Judge” having said adieu to Iain and Lydia going off to University and Seb Price emigrating to New Zealand.
The leadership team has been glad to have the help of Becky who has settled in seamlessly. Geoff Wyatt, Ruth Waddington and Hayley Young continue to make up the rest of the team. We have low numbers at the moment but we all feel Hy-tec continues to play an important role, and in not very many years we will open our doors to the youngsters growing up in the church (help!)
Thanks as always to the Hy-tec liaison team who are a great support, and a
