Friendship Group
During 2008 the Friendship Group continued to meet monthly. In August (when the church premises were closed) we were fortunate to be able to meet in Mary Clifford’s garden at Birdlip. The sun shone and we had a very pleasant afternoon. ‘Thank you’ Mary, and thanks to the drivers too.
Our regular meetings follow much the same pattern each month – after a cuppa and meeting up with friends we have some form of entertainment. If there is anyone who lives alone and would like to meet with others in the same position, do come along on the first Saturday afternoon of the month at 2.30pm. If transport is a problem please ’phone one of us.

“Highbury on Wednesday”
Another successful year for the Hy-Way Group. The aim of our meetings is to gather in the Morton Brown Room for a social time with friends.
A brief time of devotions, much enhanced by the Winnie Newton Memorial CDs and books is usually followed by one of our hosting team presenting a topic of choice for entertainment and discussion. Tea and biscuits are also enjoyed,
We have a loyal group of regular members and new ones are always welcome. The hosting team comprises Jenny Bartlett, Richard Cleaves, Sue Cole, Shirley Fiddimore, Joyce Jones and June Tremlett and rotation means
topics through the year have been many and varied.
Thanks are due to all the team, and also to Rene Nixon and Kath for tea-making and to Joan Francis for acting as treasurer.

We had a rather damp start to 2008 as we had to cancel our first meeting due to snow and floods. However, despite the resulting delay to the performance date of our pantomime “Sleeping Beauty” we had a successful show and raised money for the two charities, Cancer Research and Practical Action.
In February some of the Highbury Guides joined with others from Battledown District for an indoor holiday weekend at Deer Park, Cowley. Out theme was “Around the World in 48 hours” and the Guides did various activities and ate different food from around the world.
In June we again joined with Guides from Lynworth for the Malvern Challenge. We had a great, virtually mud-free weekend, and some of the Guides managed to complete the full 8 mile activity hike for the first time. The weather was far kinder to us than                                                                          to the Battledown Ranger Guides who took part in the Sun Run the following weekend!
In the summer we met at Deer Park, Cowley (Girlguiding Gloucestershire’s HQ and camping and activities centre) a number of times, where our activities
