January - March
We started the year by concentrating on getting fit and working towards the fitness challenge badge. Recycling is always important and so we learnt how to make homemade paper from old bills and bank statements. This was then decorated and used as the basis for cards for Mothering Sunday. We also celebrated Highbury Scouts Centenary by attending the plaque unveiling in Grosvenor Street and then Church Parade. We went to Cranham to plant some trees to commemorate our Centenary.
April - August
Following a break for the very early Easter holidays, we had a circus skills evening which was lots of fun. We learnt how to juggle and some of us tried out the unicycles! A fun day at Cranham in June was the highlight of the term. We met several former Scouts and Cubs and even had visitors from Switzerland. A one night joint camp with the Beavers in July proved very popular, and even the rain did not spoil our hike to Cleeve Hill, where we found fossils.
Also, for the first time, we had a 5 night summer camp at Blackwell Court, Bromsgrove.  Six Cubs attended from Highbury, as well as 2 from a pack in Charlton Kings, another Cub from
Leicester (a member of Felicity’s family) and an ex Highbury Cub. We went on a long hike to Lickey Hills Country Park, went swimming, grass sledging, indoor wall climbing as well as other Scouting based activities. The weather proved difficult again, but we managed to get the tents down in the dry.
September - December
We welcomed a new adult volunteer, Shiona Hastie. We have been working on our creative side by completing the Chefs badge and Artists badge. Mr Cleaves came to one of our meetings and taught us some tricks which will contribute to the Entertainers badge.
Five Cubs took part in the District Chess Challenge in October.
A visit to the library completed the Book Reader badge.
We ended the year by singing carols at the homes of a few Church Members.
We regularly have 22 Cubs attending, including 1 girl.

Scout Troop

The troop has had yet another busy year. The Monday evening programme included a wide range of activities, however as always, the highlights were the camps away.

In the Spring a patrol entered the District camping competition at Blackwell Court, where despite for most of them, it being their first Scout camp they achieved a silver camping standard. In addition to the camping competition, they took part in a range
