Highbury Home            -  6  -              Reports 2008
other events that happened in December. We were able to borrow some life-size (well, life-size for some of us) nativity figures,  and bring the Christmas story to life in a different way. There were a huge number of things happening during this time including the nativity which was an adventure in itself.
One of the events was the Christmas Holiday Club with St Luke’s and St Michael’s. It touched on the familiar characters of the Christmas story, encouraging us to focus on all the gifts shared and what we can offer Jesus.
The New Year …
This involves new plans and ideas. Some of these are coming from the Engage Conference that Sharon Wallington, Jean Gregory and I attended in November 2008. These are all part of discussions at the moment with thoughts about working more with the community and local families.
I believe 2009 will bring its own surprises. Seeing what challenges God has for Highbury and us as individuals can be frightening, but also very exciting. I’m sure there will be lots to report next year as well.
Thanks again for all your support, being willing to be involved in some strange ideas and being encouraging in so many ways.

Secretary’s Report
At the Annual Meeting Roger and Jean Gregory stood down as Church Secretaries after thirteen years of service to the church, and we thanked them with a gift to enjoy in their garden for many years to come.
Sue Cole took on this responsibility and has brought her own personality, style and gifts to the position supported by the Deacons. (At the time this report goes to press Sue is currently visiting a children’s home in Kerela State in India, in support of the C.H.I.K.S Charity, and we look forward to hearing about it on her return.)
Special thanks must also go to Sue Sillence, Heather Tarling and Janet Rhodes for taking on many administrative tasks, a background but very important role.
2008 was another busy and exciting year, the main highlight being the arrival of Becky Hartwell as our Pastoral Assistant. Becky’s talents and gifts have inspired us all to take on new challenges and try things for the first time. We now have a Sunday Special for children once a month, starting with Breakfast at 9.00am, and this has been popular and fun for children and helpers alike!
Becky has also supported and encouraged the prayer life of the church, and she led a course of Prayer Trainings in September. In October she organised a 24 hour prayer, thus enabling all ages to think of new ways to pray.
We have seen the return of the Bring and Share Lunches, and have enjoying
