Modules E4 and F2 – Worship and Preaching

Some useful websites to accompany the module notes on worship and preaching.

Theology on the Internet
A good place to start using the Internet is with one of Oxford University’s online tutorials introducing the study of Theology on the Internet: The Internet Theologian

The Bible on the Internet
We recommend that you  use three versions: here are links to these online Bibles:
1. A direct equivalence translation like the New Revised Standard Version or the New International Version
2. A dynamic equivalence translation like the Good News Bible or the Contemporary English Version
3. A paraphrase like the Message.
In addition, the Net Bible is an excellent resource.  A new translation it includes copious notes explaining the thinking behind the translation and the various textual variants.
www.biblegateway.com gives access to many other translations.

Worship Resources on the Web
The Text This Week is an excellent place to start looking for sites on worship.  The home page is linked to the Lectionary readings that are included in the CWM Prayer Handbook.  A Scripture index enables you to look up resources linked to any Bible passage.  A movie concordance enables you to link Bible passages with films and an art concordance enables you to link Bible passages with works of art.  One word of warning ... Beware of the section that includes sermons.  Useful though it can be to read other people’s sermons, it is much better to go to the biblical text and to commentaries and to work on the passage yourself!  It was one of the first Michael Durber introduced me to when we first started to use the web for resources.  It was also the one recommended by Wayne Hawkins.
Vince Carrington asked Pete Sampson to recommend some sites:  here are some of his recommendations:
www.faithandworship.com covers a broad selection of subjects
www.worship-downloads.com which provides MIDI files for purchase that can be used for song & hymn accompanyment
home.centurytel.net/milleman/ which is another source of MIDI files, but free
www.lifefebc.com  another source for free MIDI files
www.videoinworship.com which is a source for still and video images that can be used in worship
Maureen Ashdown recommended the following sites:
www.redforgod.freeuk.com has free contempory music downloads suitable for use in services esp. youth.
www.bloxhamproject.org.uk has lots of links and resources for educational use.
The Methodist Church web site has some excellent links to resources for worship and preaching:
