Telephone: 01242 522050; Fax: 01242 705084; e-mail richard.cleaves@highburychurch.co.uk

Following pastorates in Harden, Minsterley and Pontesbury, Richard has been Highbury’s Minister since 1991, and shares work in the Church with his wife, Felicity. They have two grown-up sons, Dave and Phil.    Felicity was President of the Congregational Federation for 2002-3.

Richard teaches New Testament and Pastoral Studies on the Federation’s Integrated Training Course (accredited by the University of Wales, Lampeter). He is involved in Churches Together in Cheltenham.  In 1994 he was President of the Congregational Federation and published a report of a sequence of training days he organised on Community Care - the Churches’ Contribution. Following hard on the heels of a chaplaincy in Shropshire’s large Mental Health hospital he focused particularly on the care of people with mental health problems. For his Doctorate he undertook a study of the way the Bible was read during the period of the Reformation.

Richard helped to write and produce the Cheltenham Passion Play and the subsequent Video, Jesus: Today, Tomorrow, Forever?   He has contributed to the New SCM Dictionary of Christian Liturgy and co-written the Congregational Federation’s service book, Patterns for Worship.  A regular supporter of Cheltenham Town, Richard is also a member of the Cotswold Magic Society and the Clergy Correspondence Chess Club.

Felicity for her part is very active in Cheltenham Scouting circles and has developed the church’s ministry among families and children.
